I woke up late and had a tough go-no-go moment. I went, I was done with West Virginia. The day was the hottest and brightest I had faced yet and I paid for it. My pace was good, and I travelled along the Ohio River for a good stretch.

The day was hot and I got exhausted in the heat. I was two-thirds of my way through and I had to quit. I had slowed to two miles per hour and I still had twelve miles to go. I called a taxi and after some confusion on the phone, I made it into Athens, Ohio for the night. And the next, I rested a day to avoid more thunderstorms. I walked to the theater and saw Hanna. A great movie that was limited in it's impact by staying focused as a study of characters without placement in a larger context. I also bought gear for the sun: black underwear (to be worn a la bike shorts), fast drying shorts, long sleeve fast-wicking white t-shirt for UV protection.
I assume that walking the bridge over Ohio River was permitted? Heared you now have acquired two wheels to hasten and expand your journey. Good thinking! Grandfather
