Distance: 37.9 Miles
Today followed along the North Bend Rail Trail at the start. About a third of the way through I linked back up with US 50. My planned campsite turned out to be mythical, so I hiked into the night towards Parkersburg. Three miles out I called for a cab, my legs were cramping and the cold had sapped me. I ended at a Red Roof Inn just at the city limit.

I had lunch with an old colleague yesterday who is from Ohio and a graduate of Ohio University in Athens. He was shocked that I knew where Athens was and even knew about Nelsonville. He told me about Blennerhassett Island in the Ohio River near Parkersburg. The owner of the island was an alleged conspirator with Arron Burr in Burr's schemes for the west. My friend is also active in the Lincoln Highway Association, which begins in Time Square! You might actually travel some pieces of the Lincoln Highway when you get farther west.
