Distance: 0 Miles
These two days were days of weakness. I cloistered myself in the motel. I was spooked. The frigid, bruised concluding miles of my trip to Winchester hurt me, froze me, and left me trepidatious. Beyond lay West Virginia, a decidedly different place, and it loomed large in my head - becoming alien, grotesque, and frightening. I was paralyzed; I clung to the familiar: Netflix, DVDs, grocery stores, the bed, and desk. Darting among these perches and dawdles betrayed my churning angst crashing against my continental endeavor. I was caught - tangled in fear and shame, in comfort's lee.

It is to your credit then that you were able to pull yourself together and move on to West Virginia.
ReplyDeleteJust like the roads and trails you're traversing have ups and downs, so may your spirits, but it's great to know that you are underway again on your continental enterprise, and crossing the Ohio River will be great progress and another landmark reached on your way to the Golden West. DAD
ReplyDeleteSelf introspection is an admirable quality, especially when it leads to renewed outlook, strength and determination. Love you Dan. Grandfather
ReplyDeleteThis sounds a lot like a section in "A Walk Across America" by Peter Jenkins when he got really sick for a night or so. He ended up probably having a bug that nearly killed some people in the nearby town, when he was only in a shelter in the nearby woods.
